It is easy to make a gay or lesbian sim on The Sims 3. If you want a girlfriend fast, you just need to cheat a little...
First, create your sim in one family, then in another, find a female sim and talk to her.
While talking, Crtl+C to open the cheat-box. Type in
"TestingCheatsEnabled True" without quotes and hit enter.
Next, in the social panel at the bottom of the screen you will see a bar under a photo of the sim you're talking to.
Drag the color in the bar to the far right to max out the relationship.
Lastly, do some romantic gestures to the targeted sim and they should fall head over heels.
