2. Spend some serious time thinking about what kind of politics or music you are into. You can make a list of these things if you want- I sketched my first vest out on paper before I did anything.
3. Recognize that your jacket is NOT going to be made overnight- over the years you are going to be adding things, and taking things off. You don't have to go out and buy a ton of patches and expect to have them all on by tomorrow morning.
4. Choose whether or not to have a back-patch or centerpiece on your jacket.
5. Go to a concert, thrift store, vintage store, record store, etc. and pick out some patches and buttons that work for you. Purchase them (don't steal, especially not from independent businesses) and place them where you want on your jacket.
6. Studs can be ordered from sites online (angryyoungandpoor.com is a good option) or you can pry them off studded belts and reuse them. If a store in your area sells studs and spikes, go for it.
7. I used acryllic paint on my jacket, but be aware that acryllic stains clothing- so if you're painting with it, don't wear your Sunday best.
8. If you see something you like (i.e. a small piece of bright green cloth) don't hesistate to put it somewhere on your jacket. Your jacket is unique to you- nobody else has one like it. So feel free to put whatever you want on it.
9. Just have fun with it- your jacket doesn't have to look like anything out of a textbook.
Createx makes a great water-based paint for air-brush that works well on fabric and leather.
No. No you can't. Leather is naturally brown.
It depends on the type of paint. Some will just peel off, other types may require a little persuasion. You can probably use acetone or laquer thinner for most paints, but as with all strong chemicals, test it in an inconspicuous place. If necessary, take it to a drycleaners that specializes in leather.
Wash it
Buy a kit that mends leather, it contains a certain type of glue that you have to use, and follow the instructions. you should be able to buy this kit either online or at a leather store.
You can remove melamine paint from a water proof jacket by applying mineral spirits to a rag and then scrubbing the jacket vigorously. If required, you can also use a scrubbing brush to remove dried in paint. Wash the jacket as per the instructions on the care label.
me
Definitely not recommended! If it is a hard leather with almost a waxy finish the turps will buckle the material and fade it, and soft leather will probably disintergrate. I've found (after leaving motorcycle leathers in the garage) that paint on leather is a killer. I found that by scratching off most of the paint with a new toothbrush and applying baby shampoo over night (just wipe of with wam water) will help lift most if not all paint off and if that fails apply a mild sugar soap (available from most hardware stores) will get the toughest of stains off but causes mild fading. Good luck!
i did it one time. with spray paint outside. it worked.
The homograph for a layer of paint and a heavy jacket is "coat."
A layer of paint refers to a coat of paint applied to a surface. A heavy jacket is a thick outer garment worn to provide warmth or protection from the elements.
