the best way that i have found to make a self propelled vehicle, is to use a rat trap. tie string to the wire flipper and fashion a axle to wrap the string in and it acts as a wind up car.
attatch CO2 canisters to the side of a wheel chair and off you go!!! LOL Enjoy it is very fun but dont forget to put your helmet on

This is just a thought, and I've tried to find as much as I can to help with this answer. The Guardian Saturday 24th April 2004 had an article on the clockwork car, (Google the Guardian with date and clockwork car). This car was designed by Leonardo da Vinci. The first working model can be seen at an Exhibition in Florence. Paolo Galluzzi Director of the Institute and Museum of the History and science in Florence overlooked the building of the first model, which is mostly built of wood. It may be possible to get plans from him, or the Institute may know how to get plans, if you are interested.
