There are many tools available to make slide shows on Mac OS. The different tools have advantages and disadvantages.
iPhoto To make a slide show add some pictures to iPhoto and click on the SlideShow button. You can set the style of the Slideshow, the music and how long each picture appears for etc. Once you have a suitable Slideshow you can select Export... from iPhoto's File menu and save your Slideshow in a suitable format for sharing with other users.
Pros: Free. Easy to Use.
Cons: Not as much flexibility.
Photo to Movie
To make a slide show with Photo to Movie, add some photos to your document. Add music. Adjust the length of the photos to match the music and make any other fine tuning adjustments to the cropping/motion of the photos. Add titles. Add graphics. Now Make Movie. You can choose to render to QuickTime, DV Stream, or upload directly to YouTube.
Pros: Higher quality output. More control over your slide show.
Cons: More difficult to use. Costs $49.95.

You'd have to save the slideshow on a flash drive or other writable media (such as a DVD) and bring the device to the friend's computer in order to watch it.
