I used to work as a mixer in a ceramics factory back in the late 80's. Gold (AU) was diluted in a 4 part acid solution. This solutions is then mixed with Silica, lead, boric acid, and other assorted dry chemicals and then smelted to 2400 degrees Fahrenheit. Mixture is then poured out to make 'cakes" which are then thrown into cold water to fracture. Glass is then ground down to required mesh size for various applications.
