You'll need:

  • Recycled paper (such as newspaper, magazines, paper bags, notebook paper, construction paper, etc.)
  • A sponge
  • Wire mesh screen (an old door or window screen. You can also use chicken wire with very small holes.)
  • A wood frame (you can use an old picture frame, or you can build a frame yourself using four pieces of wood and some nails)
  • Plastic basin or tube LARGE ENOUGH TO FIT THE FRAME
  • A blender
  • Felt, blotting paper, flannel, cotton rag, newsprint, or other absorbent fabric
  • Staples (the kind you buy in a hardware store. or, if the wood frame is soft, use a stapler)
  • Liquid starch (if you don't have any or can't find any there are recipes on line for making your own. )
  • Rolling pin
  • Iron

Instructions:

  1. Tear your paper into small pieces and fill the blender halfway full of it. Add warm water until the blender is full. Blend the paper and water for about 30 seconds, starting at low speed and then gradually increasing. Blend until you get a smooth, well-blended pulp with no chunks or bits of paper.
  2. Use your screen and wood frame to make what's called a mold. Stretch the screen over the frame as tightly as possible and use a stapler to affix it. Trim off any excess. Now is also a good time to lay out the felt or blotting paper that you will use later. Place it next to your basin so that it will be ready when you need it.
  3. Fill up the basin or tub about halfway full with water. Make three blenders full of pulp and add them to the tub. Stir the water and pulp in the basin with your hands or a clean stick and then stir in two teaspoons of liquid starch. Mix well, then submerge your mold (screen and wood frame) into the basin, with the screen side on the bottom. Move the mold from side to side until the pulp settles on top of it evenly.
  4. Carefully raise the mold out of the water and hold it above the tub while the water drains. The pulp mixture should be in a uniform layer across the screen. If there are holes, submerge the mold again and give it another try. Press down on it gently to squeeze out the moisture, and use a sponge to soak up excess water from the bottom of the screen.
  5. After the mold stops dripping, flip the screen paper-side down onto your felt, flannel, or other blotting material. Press out any moisture with the sponge and then carefully life the mold, leaving the sheet of paper lying on the fabric. With your hands, press out the bubbles that might remain and smooth it out.
  6. Put another piece of your absorbent fabric on top of the paper and with the rolling pin smooth out the paper and the remaining moisture. Put it out in the sun or another warm place so it can dry. If you are impatient, you can use the iron to speed up the process, but iron it through the top piece of blotting fabric, not on the paper. When it is dry, take the top piece of blotting fabric off to reveal your homemade piece of paper!! Afterwards you can use it for whatever you want to.

If you are referring to making paper from scratch, I am afraid I don't know. However, this is a simple process for making recycled paper.
