The 'best' meditation is different for everyone. Try different meditations until you find one that suits you best. For me it was shuffling through Chakra meditation, awareness watching awareness method, and chanting. Different things worked for me on different days. Go through them until you find those that work for you.
Sit still with an erect back and focus your mind on your breathing. The easiest way to begin is simply to count your inhalations and exhalations. Think "one" silently to yourself as you inhale, then think "two" silently to yourself as you exhale, and continue in this manner until you reach "ten" and begin again. If you get lost, just begin again at "one."
When a stray thought interferes with your counting, just notice it and return to your counting. Let it go and do not become caught up in it. In terms of the easiest posture, probably it is the kneeling posture. Pile up some pillows or fold over a piece of carpet and sit back on it so that your butt is higher than your knees, which are touching the ground. Push your stomach forward to straighten your back and tuck your chin in. Sit in front of a blank wall and let your eyes be open but lowered. Let your shoulders and arms relax with your hands on your lap. Breathe with your stomach, not your chest.
Try this. Take five or ten minutes a day (in the morning), and do gibberish. Make all kinds of sounds, as long as they are not a real language. Loud sounds, soft sounds, angry sounds, sad sounds, just create any non-word sounds you like. Really get into it! And move your body around too.
After five or ten minutes, stop, and sit silently for five minutes, becoming aware of your thoughts, feelings, or sensations. Just watch. Do not try to change or fix anything. Love yourself, and accept whatever happens from your heart.
One meditation technique is called Vipassana, and involves watching the breath. You simply sit comfortably, perhaps with legs crossed, back straight, and you watch as the breath comes into your belly and leaves your belly. No alteration of the breathing is needed. Eyes closed or half-open. If your awareness leaves your breath (as it almost certainly will!), simply notice, "ah, I am not watching my breath," and bring your attention back to your breath. Do *not* try to stop your mind, or change or fix anything. Simply watch with non-judgment -- whatever is, is alright. Accept it from your heart. Begin with five or ten minutes a day, in the morning or around sunset.
I’ve found this to be a great help to my mediation and even celebs are known to use it too.
