You first must identify specifically and define the barrier. Then you must look at your strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats. In other words, what are your personal strengths that you might use in terms of over-coming the barrier. What weakness might you have that might interfere with over-coming. Then look at the opportunities that might be available to you in over-coming, and the reward of victory. Look at the possible threats that might prevent you from succeeding in your objective. Then you attempt to maximize your strengths and opportunities, while minimizing the weakness and threats. It's a matter of appropriately analyzing the situation, thinking through (using critical thinking skills) the situation taking all into account, and then following through with 100% commitment, and perseverance. Sometimes over-coming barriers takes time and you must realize this. It is not always a spontaneous event. You must be patient at times and not get discouraged. Lastly, it does not hurt to get good counsel from appropriate individuals, however you must be careful on who is doing the advising. He/she must be mature, analytical in nature, of reputation, and experience in dealing with the type of barriers you are attempting to over-come.

For example, it depends on the ability of the sender, how much the sender understands of the message they are trying to send. If the sender makes the receiver misunderstanding what he or she is trying to send, then this can be a barrier. Technological breakdowns also raise the barrier such as computer failure, viruses and crashes. Another barrier can be the use of jargon. Jargon is the technical language that is used to speed up communication. However, when non-specialists used jargon, this can cause the communication problems when the managers fail to identify the situations when it is important. If that happens, it will not speed up communication but actually slow down.
