You just push on it to open it. If the car is locked, the gas door will be locked also. The car needs to be unlocked in order to open the gas filler door.
The "gas door" is magnetically interlocked to the door latches. The door can be readily opened manually when the doors are unlocked.
The rear doors on a 1995 Mercedes S420 won't open if the child safety switch has been turned on or the locking mechanism is defective. This can be checked by manually trying to open the doors from the outside.
it is located under the glove box. there is a black panel with four screws, take those off and there is a box with slide lockes, open it and the blower moter and regulator switch are there.
On the C280, the trunk is electro-mechanical. It should open either with the key fob, or with the "valet" key that slides out of the fob. The C-Class Mercedes' still have the traditional exterior keyhole. Also, on the C-Class, there is a switch on the center console between the seats that opens the trunk.

Push on the side of the gas door towards the front of the car and it will pop open.
make sure the car is unlocked and manually open the tank door.
Press on the left side of door it will flip open.

The fuel door is a hinged door over the fuel-tank filling pipe cavity, and swings outwards, on a vertical axis, to be in open position.
Mercedes can make a metal key (the part inide the key fob) and it will be cheaper than a regular key that is the only wayu unless you have a spare
there is a manual release button you have to pull on the inside panel of the truck on the side where the fuel flap door is located. I know that, but cannot get the darn flap open with my remote key!
