As far as I know, iTunes only works with iPods. If you have something other than an iPod, you might have to use Windows Media player. If you subscribe to Napster or Rhapsody, you can download songs from there no matter what device you have. Also, songs from Wal-Mart and Amazon.com will work on any device as well.
EDIT: actually i think itunes does support other devices, but it might vary depending on your device. Like the Zune HD. Of course it isn't supported.
