They thought computers should be easy to use, as well as pleasing to the eye both inside and out. Interior hardware layout has always been an art to Apple, and it has served them well throughout the years and allowed them to make super-compact models such as the Mac Mini and the Macbook Air. Financial gain was another goal of the business, of course.
