THE PHRASING OF THE QUESTION IMPLIES OIL IS THE FUEL USED. IF OIL, ON THE SIDE OF THE PUMP IS A BLEEDER. PUT A SHORT HOSE ON THE BLEEDER NIPPLE AND CRACK THE FITTING ABOUT 1/4 TURN CCW. PUT THE BURNER INTO A CALL FOR HEAT TO TURN THE BURNER MOTOR (WHICH DRIVES THE PUMP), ON. WITH THE HOSE IN A SMALL CAN (CUT THE TOP OFF A COKE CAN), RECYCLE THE BURNER TILL ONLY OIL COMES OUT, NO AIR BUBBLES. THE BURNER CONTROLLER WILL ONLY ALLOW THE UNIT TO OPERATE FOR SO LONG BEFORE THE SAFETY TRIPS. LET IT COOL (1-2 MIN) BETWEEN ATTEMPTS. PUSH THE RED BUTTON TO RECYCLE THE BURNER CONTROL. CLOSE THE BLEEDER WHEN DONE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS. LC
an electric furnace runs off of 208/230 Volts while a typical gas furnace runs off of 120 also a gas furnace will have a valve for the gas relay where the gas enters the furnace.
a furnace
There is a restriction of fuel to the carburetor. Check the fuel filter.
The fuel valve has 3 positions: On, Reserve and Prime. It is a vacuum activated unit. Prime is used only if you have run out of fuel and need to prime the carbs. (Fuel runs all the time in this position). Once started turn to on. Reserve is self explanatory.
have baseboard heat boiler runs off furnace want to shut off furnace to save oil will it hurt anything
A blast furnace runs continuously, and input materials are continually dumped in at the top to make their way down through the furnace. Shutting down a blast furnace for relining or other work is a major event in its life.
A resistance furnace runs on electricity so it will be some type of electrical transformer.

it's the same as the furnace filter. the air conditioner runs through the furnace to push he cold air. change your furnace filter and you are changing the air filter on the air conditioner
Sounds like either the system hasn't been primed sufficiently (there's enough fuel to start, but there is still air in the fuel lines), there is an airlock in the fuel line somewhere, the fuel filter is plugged, the fuel line is plugged, or the fuel pump is malfunctioning.
