The American Heritage Dictionary pronunciation is shee ROZ, but pronounce it the way the Australians do: Shih RAZ, rhymes with pizzazz.

Answer Technically, it's pronounced see-rah, if talking about the wine grape variety and the wine made from it. The same grape is called/spelled Syrah in France (from whence it originates, incidentally, the grape has nothing to do with Shiraz in Iran)
