How do you find out where you can buy a specific variety of wine?

Buying WineInternet!

However, after searching through 20 sites (from wine.com down) you find it either discontinued or zero inventory. So call the wholesaler (e.g. Pine State) or the importer in Georgia directly and ask, ask, ask. It takes a good month or two to get it. Good luck and if you do the math - then driving locally for 3 cases beats the shipping costs.

Browse the link below 'Wine Info' and you will find all the information about wine brands, merchants and wine discounts too.

A great website to search for a specific wine is wine-searcher.com. It will give you a list of places to purchase the wine as well as the price it is selling for.

What kind of wine should you buy for a wine connoisseur?

Wine for a Connoisseur

  • Go to a specialty wine store and ask for their advice. Usually most people enjoy 00 - 01 sweetness. There are so many great wines on the market so the pros can help you select one. Good wines don't have to come from France, Greece, etc., as the U.S. and Canada make some pretty awesome wines of their own. One thing Canada has is what they call "ice wine" and it's like a liqueur and either the person is really going to enjoy sipping it or really won't like it. It's expensive! I usually get a red and white wine for our guests. White wine should be chilled, and red wine should be room temperature. My husband loves wine and makes some of the best wine around. We give a couple of bottles to our close friends and it's a treat! When I buy wine for someone who I know drinks a lot of wine, I usually try to find an unusual wine that is not commonly found. If I know the type of wine they like best, I try for a bottle of that particular type of wine. A great wine to find some unique bottles of wine is to take a wine tasting tour to wineries. It is often possible to find some great wines that are only available directly from the winery.
  • If you get a white wine, it's best to not bring it chilled. This will make the host feel they have to serve it, and most hosts (especially a connoisseur) will already have their wines planned in advance to match their meal. I would choose a wine that can be aged for a considerable amount of time, usually a red.
  • The myth of French wine superiority was destroyed in 1976 when the best wine experts in France selected California wines as superior to the best in France. The wine expert Robert Parker asserts that the very best Sauvignon Blanc wine in the world is produced in the Marlborough region of New Zealand. The best Pinotage wine in the world comes from South Africa, and the list goes on and on.
  • And don't fall into the trap of thinking that you have to spend a lot of money. Blind taste tests repeatedly demonstrate that many of the world's best wines are produced in the New World. In addition, blind taste tests also repeatedly demonstrate that price is not correlated well with the quality of wine. Producers sometimes raise prices to increase sales! That's only possible because people falsely assume that more expensive wine must be better.
  • In short, don't get suckered by pretentious and pompous wine snobs. It's much more fun to give (or receive) gifts of unusual wines or wines with interesting stories.
  • Sometimes its better to ask them what type of wine they like where the wine is from, armed with this information and knowing what kind of money you want to spend go to a good local independent wine shop explain to them the information you know and hopefully they can recommend something for you.
  • Wines from the Rothschild vineyard are well-regarded in the wine industry. The Rothschild wine had bottle labels designed by Picasso and some of the most famous artists in the world. (Rothschild did better than any other French red wine in the competition against California red wines. Judges couldn't see the expensive Picasso label.) The wines from the bordeaux region are also considered to be very valuable and tend to increase in value over time.

How do you run liquor store?

The number of competitors in the area largely determines what type of pricing you will have. You don't want to be known as the highest price place in town but it is equally important not to be the cheapest.

Cost control is important. Beer, and to a lesser extent liquor, goes on sale periodically (also known as postoff). It is vital to try to time your purchases correctly so that you are always able to buy on sale. This means you have to carefully track sales and make accurate forecasts on how much inventory you will need. I try to aim for two months of inventory when an item is on sale, and two to three weeks if it is not.

Profit margins will depend on the competition and how well you buy. In my particular area, I aim for 25% profit margin for liquor, 20% beer, 40% on wine, soda, water, and snacks. Pick some well known items and make them cheap. People know these high profile items and will think your store is pricy or cheap based on a few items. We use Smirnoff and Jagermeister and our lower price items. On lesser known items you can get away with charging a higher price because people dont necessarily know what the item should cost.

Always try to expand your selection. If a customer ever asks for something that you dont have, write it down and tell them you'll have it next week. Have it next week. Friendliness and convenience is all that keeps people coming to you instead of the cheaper stuff at the grocery store. It's critically important to have a good computerized cash register (point of sale system). Instead of an electric cash register, a POS system will track sales, reduce inventory shrinkage and help you watch margin. They can also help you crack down on employee theft. Some even have ID scanners so you won't be fined for selling to minors. They can cost about $3000 per station but think of it as an investment.

How wine is made?

You have to be more specific about what kind of wine. Generally you can say: Wine is an alcoholic beverage made from the fermentation of grape juice. The natural chemical balance of grapes is such that they can ferment without the addition of sugars, acids, enzymes or other nutrients.

How is wine made?

Allowing yeast cells to turn sugar into grapes onto carbon dioxide and oxygen.
Grapes are crushed in bins and trucked to a winery. At the winery, the crushed grapes are poured into stainless steel fermenting tanks. After this, the wine-maker usually adds yeast to the grape juice (which digests the sugars), and the grape juice is poured into barrels, so that it can age for a few months.

Once the aging process is halfway done, the wine is moved into bottles, to age even further. After the wine finishes aging, it is shipped to the consumer.
