The easiest way without a puller is to loosen the nut, take a large ball pein hammer and place it ball end down on the tip of the carnk (should be a drilled place there) and take a heavy (2 lb. or better) and strike the flat face on the upper side of the ball pein with it. One to three blows will loosen it. Do NOT strike the flywheel, it will break the magnets toose. A prybar under the edge only is allowed.
use a wheel puller
It is the whole assembly containing the pull start (if applicable) or the metal or plastic shroud surrounding the flywheel (it spins when you start the engine ).
20 thousandths of an inch will suffice. Fairly forgiving ..........loosen the coil and place a standard business card between flywheel and coil. Allow magnetic force from flywheel to pull together and sandwich card between flywheel and coil. Tighten coil. This will work fine.
yes
Check the underneath of lawn mower for grass built up.
briggs doesn't offer compression ratings for their engines. I will usually pull it 3 to 5 times and look for 90 to 120. anything less is a problem and if it doesn't hold compression there is a problem
You may have blown a belt.
check to see if it is getting spark . you probably have the "kill mechanism " installed wrong . It's probably grounding out the ignition system. The "kill mechanism" is the cable operated mechanism that goes from the handle with a cable to the pull start housing . Its either improperly installed or out of adjustment.
The armature needs to be slightly loose with the magnets away from it, insert a business card or index card between flywheel and legs of the armature, slowly rotate the flywheel until magnets pull the legs close, tighten armature rotate flywheel until magnets are away, remove card and you are done.
I'm doing this now. i drilled through the rivets. started with an 1/8th drill bit and a little oil on top of the rivet. the problem is going to be finding replacement screws that will hold the starter cage once you have replaced the cord. some Briggs and stratton engineer needs to be taken to the wood shed.
Yes, pull the trans and remove the flywheel to access.Yes, pull the trans and remove the flywheel to access.
first make sure the safety switch(pull-bar on handle},if that fails, check and make sure the ignition coil is in the proper distance from (and clean}the flywheel.if that fails, providing coil is plugged in,the coil might be shot.don't forget to inspect the plug wire.happy harvesting. The engine does have to turn 600 rpms to create a spark, distance from the coil to the flywheel, .010
