You have to remove top cap with 19mm wrench but be careful because the spring inside is under very high tension and will spring out when cap is fully removed. So point the end away from you or anything else when removing cap. After you get the cap off and spring and other two pieces inside remember the order they came out for reassembly. Next take the bottom drain screw out of lower fork section the only #2 Phillips head screw down there. Allow old oil to drain out and reinsert the screw and tighten. Fill fork with oil 20w to specific amount for which year you have and then insert spring and two lower pieces back in. It will take a lot of pressure pushing down on spring but make sure you take your time and screw cap on straight and don't cross-thread it or you will be sorry! Hope this helps.

fork oil amounts for a Yamaha GT 80 are 108 to 116cc's per fork tube. you should use 10w motorcycle fork oil. this is good for all years from 1974 to 1980.
