the treads are stander so it will left for lossen and right for tighten
what size nut is on the blades on a john deere z225 42 in mower
i had high lift blades on my mower & it would overheat. i put regular blades on it & problem went away. could be your problem

Turn your blades off.
Remove the deck from the tractor, then remove both blades. They can be sharpened using a grinder. If you don't have a grinder, then there are shops out there that can sharpen them for you (try asking at a shop that sharpens chainsaw chains).

To sharpen lawn mower blades, carefully unscrew the blades from the machine. Use a putty knife to scape off any residue. Then take a medium file and stroke the edge of the blade evenly.
Disingage the mower deck take off the mower deck look under neath their and replace the belt
