Begin by loosening the tensioner pulley. Slide the tensioner pulley to the right. The power steering belt will become loose and can be removed. Put the new power steering belt on and tighten it by sliding the tensioner pulley to the left.
Secure the power steering pump with the retaining bolts. Attach the power steering hose to the power steering pump. Put the belt on to the power steering pump. Fill the power steering system with fluid.
Put it back on and tighten the bracket.
Is this a single belt or a serpentine belt system, if so look for belt tension idler pulley and loose belt, or single belt then you will need to loose and release tension on the power steering pump assembly.
The power steering unit and the alternator are both driven by the serpentine belt. Loosen the tensioner pulley and the serpentine belt will become loose. Put the new serpentine belt on and tighten the tensioner pulley.
in the power steering pump...should have a belt connecting to it..shouldn't be hard to find
on the power steering pump bracket on the side closest to the battery look for a 1/2" square hole (incidently use this with a 1/2'" drive socket wrench to leverage belt tension after you put on the new belt when you get there) just below this square hole is the tension bolt for the power steering belt adjustment
For most cars there is a separate pulley groove and belt for the alternator and power steering. That way if your alternator belt breaks you could still steer the vehicle.
The power steering fluid check is found at the end of the power steering belt. If you are unable to locate it, kindly consult the user manual.
You have to loosen the power steering pump bolts and push down on the pump and the belt will loosen to take it off, to put it back on you route the belt over the pulleys and pull up on the steering pump and when tight tighten the pump bolts and your done.
take the pump off to loosen the belt first then put on belt and tighten pump and check tension in belt.
I have an 1988 Deville. On my car the power steering pump is on top of engine next to the belt tensioner. You will see a reservoir with a plastic cap . Remove cap and put fluid in there.
