96 grand Cherokee doesnt have a fan belt, its a serpentine belt. And if you look down to the right of the fan there is a pully which acts as the tensioner, youll use a socket to loosen it up and then youll be able to slide the old belt off. Keep the box from the new belt so you can see how the new belt loops around each pulley. Be sure to tighten the belt pretty tight so it has minimal play or youll get some sqeaking whenever you run your AC.
I just changed the one on my 1992 s10, its a serpentene belt which is one belt for everything. you need a rachet and a pipe or something to go over the handle of the rachet to give you more leverage. the rachet will go on the bottom of the idler pulley in the front. Just make sure you know the routing of the belt before taking off the old belt, usually a belt diagram is near the hood latch on a sticker. You should be able to put the rachet on with the pipe over it and push toward the passenger side and the belt should come right off, and just reverse to put the new belt on.
pull on your tensioner to remove pressure with a wrench remove belt and reverse
unplug batt, undo 2 bolts on alt, remove belt by pushing down on tension pully, jack handle will help pry it off,it`s relly easy.
Yes, I know of no engine where the alternator is driven by the cam belt. The alternator is driven by a drive belt or serpentine belt.
The alternator is mounted on an adjustment bracket. You can loosen the lower bolt a couple turns then loosen the upper bolt a couple turns and slide the alternator forward to get the old belt off and the new belt on. Hold the alternator back with a big screwdriver or breaker bar to re-tension the new belt while you tighten the top bolt, then tighten the bottom bolt.
on the car its fairly simple disconnect battery. use 3\8 drive ratchet put in the auto tensioner arm for serpentine belt and lift up remove belt. remove bolts going to wish bone mounts at front of engine. tilt engine forward. disconnect wire harness to alternator{should be 10mm} remove bolt from bracket at bottom of alternator. tilt alternator up and remove bolt from bottom back. hope this helped.
This vehicle (like most cars) has both a starter and an alternator. The alternator is driven by a serpentine belt, and the starter is located on the lower part of the engine at the transmission, where the teeth engage with the flywheel/flex plate. An alternator for the 1992 Sentra usually costs around $120-150, and a starter in the range of $90-120.
Put your new fan belt around the pulleys of your 1992 Chevy Blazer. Tighten the fan belt with the tensioner pulley.
A faulty alternator, a faulty belt tensioner.
Remove the alternator belt by loosening the tensioner pulley. Remove the wiring from the alternator. Remove the retaining bolts to the alternator. Reverse the process to install the new alternator.
