there is no place for you to check it. the dealership will check it for you. and it only holds 6.5 quart's. if you have the 3.0L engine.

Oh man! 'You' CANNOT change the tranny fluid unless you have a special mechanic's tool and it most be put up on a lift to do so! The cadillac catera has what is called a SEALED TRANSMISSION ofcourse so you have to take it to a shop. My grandson just bought a used one and we just wanted to check the fluid level and had to take it in for even that!! God Bless, grandmom in N.J.
dump the fluid in the bottle uder the hood that says transmission fluid.
It will be cheaper to buy used one on ebay,I did so,it cost 275$+delievery and had only 35k miles on it!Labor is about 400-500$!
I have 98 catera....and this was cause believe it or not by a blown fuse. If I remember correctly this was the automatic transmission control model fuse....I think it was rated at 20 under the driver side steering wheel...fuse relay....
In throught the dip-stick hole...
Motorcraft MERCON - V - automatic transmission fluid ( I believe it is stamped into the automatic transmission dipstick )
Did you replace the fuel filter as well? A plugged filter will cause the engine to stall.
