This is pretty straight forward.

Remove the old caulk. Use a hard rubber scrapper to do this so you don't scrap the tub finish.

Clean the area with a mildew cleaner, any will do, check your local stores. After that, clean the area with mineral spirits to get any grease or soap residue off.

Make sure it's completely dry. Apply a 100% pure silicone to the seam. Smooth with your finger or anyone of the tools out there they sell. Let this dry for 24 hours before you get it wet.

Can you caulk over cracked caulk?

Not the greatest idea, when packing in the oakum and then pouring the lead and caulking it the hub could split wide open Your new caulking job will last longer if you remove the old caulk and any of its debris and make sure the area is dry before adding new caulk. You can use an old screwdriver to remove the old.

Can you caulk over caulking that has cracked?

Yes you can, but it is a cleaner job if you remove the old caulking (as much as you can) and reseal it with new caulk.

The sealant around your bath has mouldy dark patches in it can you paint over it and if so what paint do you use to cover it?

If the sealant is NON-silicone, then yes, you could paint it. I do not however recommend it. You best solution to this problem is to remove the old sealant and replace it with fresh bathroom caulk. There are several brands made specifically for use in bathrooms and areas where mould and mildew are common.

How do you caulk a bathtub?

Grout is porus and degrades after time, the proper item to use would be caulking ( non porus and waterproof) also degrades, but can be replaced easily. Grout is preferred because it lasts longer, is pourous to a degree and will let water evaporate so that mold will not grow. Caulk is used for more temporary bonds such as between the sink and a painted wall. Grout, if installed properly can last you a lifetime.

What kind of caulk do you use to fix a pool filter?

You cannot caulk a swimming pool filter of either stainless steel, fiberglass or plastic. Does this filter have a crack in the main body? Is this filter leaking at the flange or where the two main components come together? How old is the unit? It may be covered under warranty. Ken
