Read the DOT code on the tire. The first two numbers & letters can tell you the plant that made them
Many tires sold in the USA will have a DOT number embossed on the inner sidewall. For example it may read "DOT 1508". This would mean the tire was made on the 15th week of 08.
"Dot" is "DOT" - Department of Transportation. So DOT Approved means "Approved by the Department of Transportation".

The highest obtainable DOT rating for automotive tires is AA for Traction and A for Temperature. This rating is obtained by a variety of tires from various manufacturers.
Most code scanners that you can purchase for home use do not include the ability to read ABS trouble codes. You will need to find a code scanner that can read the ABS codes.

If the snow tires have a bigger diameter than the others, the odo and the speedo will read a bit low. If the snow tires have a smaller diameter the odo and speedo will read a bit high.
