there is no dipstick! it is a sealed unit and has to be put on a lift to have it checked!

I can't say I know the Tercel specifically (ask the dealer), but most (like probably 90%) of all manual transmission cars do not have a transmission dipstick. Direct gear connection limits fluid loss from excess heat and friction, so dipsticks are generally unneeded.

The same place you check the transmission fluid. Make sure the engine is warm and do not overfill. A funnel is a must.
