Start engine, idle in park. Pull dipstick, wipe off and reinsert. Pull dipstick and read the level.
The oil dipstick is built into the oil filler cap. Unscrew the cap, pull the dipstick out, wipe it dry and reinsert it. Remove it again to read the oil level.
Open the bonnet. Get a dipstick and clean it well. Insert the dipstick entirely into the oil tank. Remove it carefully and read the oil level.
Shut the engine off, and wait 30 minutes. Open the hood or bonnet and find the oil dipstick. Pull it out and read what it says. Add if it is on the add mark. Do not overfill.

If the car is not level, the dipstick may read lower or higher than the actual level, depending on the angle in relation to the dipstick. This can result in too much oil being added, or no too little.
A 2002 Honda CR-V has a dipstick that can be pulled out to check the transmission levels. Find the dipstick under the hood and pull it out and then wipe off any liquid. Put the dipstick back in and pull it out slowly to read the levels on the dipstick.
After you have driven the car and the transmission is hot, pull the dipstick out that says "Trans Fluid". It will be longer than the dipstick for the engine oil. You read it the same way as the oil dipstick using the holes at the bottom as level indicators.
Pull up the dipstick, wipe it off, reinsert it, pull it back out, read the level.
Shut the engine off and wait 30 minutes. Open the hood and locate the dipstick. Pull it out and wipe it off. Insert it all the way back in and remove it. Read the oil level on the dipstick. Do not overfill. If you cannot find the dipstick then drive to the nearest mechanic or auto parts store and they will show you where it is.
