There's a right way and a DIY way of doing this. The right way involves a highly specialized machine which evacuates the refrigerant and oil, pulls a vacuum to ensure an absence of leaks, then charges the system with oil and refrigerant. And you're not going to spend $5000 or more for one.

The DIY way involves the 12 ounce cans of refrigerant. Locate the low side schrader valve. Turn the vehicle on with the air conditioning on max ac. Let the AC run for a couple minutes to ensure a proper vacuum is pulled, then connect the can to the low side schrader valve. Discharge the can, and ensure the level does not go above the red line on the can. Repeat with as many cans as needed.
