Using a set of a/c gauges put the blue hose on the low side (suction side) and the red hose on the high side (discharge side) and make sure that there is no freon in the system and if you have freon in the system then you will have to go to an automotive a/c shop and have them reclaim it for you.. Put the yellow hose on your vacuum pump and let it run for about 1 hour and then let it sit for 1 hour so that you can see if it will at least hold the vacuum pulled. If so then let it run for an additional hour and then start the recharging process remembering to keep the low side readings between 30 to 40psi and the high side between 200 to 250psi depending on the outside temperature…………….
Pep boys(auto parts) sells a recharging kit for DUMMIES...with complete instructions,,,otherwise, best to read up on it You should be able to find a shop manual at your local library with diagnostics and specs -- make copies of the right sections as they are usually only available in the REFERENCE section...good luck :)
Be very very careful not to charge the system through the HIGH PRESSURE line!!!!! Only add the freon into the Low side Fatter diameter Line also known as the suction side of the compressor, if you go into the high side the can may explode in your hands not pretty!!!! The Low side has the larger fitting attachment on it as well so its hard to make that mistake!!!1-2 cans are needed charge with car running a/c on high blow to the center vents. If you by accident overcharge the system , dont worry the compressor has a blow valve on it that will scare the hell out of you when it blows open releasing the over pressure, but its ok. Peace and wear googles and gl;oves for your own protection. They also sell a dye + freon mix in one can and a freon+ sealant in one can you can add either or both of these to your system if you are loosing freon due to a leak somewhere. The leak dye will have a color usually red yellow etc. and if you are lucky will leak out along a fitting line or someplace else leading you to the leaking area, if not you need it checked out by an A/C certified Pro. Have Fun!!!! John D.

Proper way is to properly dispose of current 134a, vacuum system, ensure system holds vacuum for 15 minutes, add proper amount of compressor oil, then properly add 134a.
You take the car to a professional. You do not have the proper tools and gauges to do this yourself. You have a leak that needs to be repaired or you would not need to recharge the A/C.
Take it to a shop. It costs about $30.
