Depending on your browser - It will show a padlock symbol somewhere.

In internet Explorer the lock appears at the bottom of the screen (on the status bar). In Google, it's a green padlock in the address bar, at the start of the web address.

Additionally, the site address begins https:// instead of http:// - the addition of the 's' indicates a secure web-site.
