Is there a way to get your title if you still owe on the vehicle?

The buyer/borrower should have a copy of the title, as it is needed to register the vehicle. The title will have the name of the buyer and the name of the company holding the lien on the vehicle.

Can you get a title for a car that was sold to you but has a lien on it?

The lien must be paid off and the title must then be signed over to you. You cannot insure and register the car in your name without a title.

How do I obtain a title to a motorcycle if the title has a bank lien and the motorcycle was sold for parts and previous owner still owes money?

You can't. The bank still owns the bike, NOT you. The bike was sold to you illegally if the bank wasn't paid off. You need to get your money back. Not quite true. He can legally sell you the bike but it becomes "interesting" depending on the terms and conditions of the loan and your state. For example you want to be careful since you might end up being RESPONSIBLE for the remainder of his loan :-) This is unlikely however since to be owner you have to transfer the title and you can not do that as long as there is a lien on the bike. a lien does not mean the bank owns the bike the seller owns it. The lien means the bank has a financial interest in the bike. "part" ownership if you will. If you really want the bike I would contact the lien holder. This might be as simple as the bike was "totaled" out by insurance and they simply forgot to remove the lien on the original title or they may "sell" you the salvage title. Call them and see if you can get someone on the phone. I would prefer to do all this BEFORE paying any money for it :-) You can use all the parts except the Frame and Engine Casing as they both have VIN numbers and you need a title for BOTH if they do not match. Good Luck

What happens if you do buy a car or motorcycle that has a lien against it and you want to register it and you got the car with a bill of sale?

you will have to find out who has a lein on it have them fill out a fourm of lein satisfy. In most states a lien holder is recorded on the title and the lien holder will keep the title until the lien is paid off. After the lien holder is paid off, they will sign the title to release the lien and give/send the title to the owner. The title office can tell you who has a lien on the title.

How can you have the title but there is still a lien against the car?

What happens if i buy a car with a lien title from the owner?

A lien title means that the car has a loan against it. If you do not have a "clear" or non lien title, the lender who hold the clear title can and does have the right to get the balance of the loan from you. The purpose of the lien title is to enable the car buyer to get the legal requirement for driving the car from the state. It's like renting the car in essence; the lien title is almost like the lease agreement for an apartment. So if a lien title is all there is...don't buy the car. It's not his to sell.Somebody has to settle the lien before you can legally own or register the vehicle.

How do you obtain a new title for a motorcycle which was abandoned by the lien holder?

Most states have a "quick title" or otherwise known as abandoned vehicle title service through the vehicle registration department in your state. They should be able to advise you. Another way to find out is to call a salvage yard and see hoe they title abandoned vehicles. You can use a lean-sale company to initiate a lean on the bike in lieu of theoretical storage fees. When the bike defaults the lean it is issued a new title in the lien holder's name (you.) For expensive bikes it takes about 3 months. For less expensive bikes it takes about a month. The lien sale company charges about $75-$100. You can also initiate the lien yourself but the process is a little more difficult. The waiting period is to see if the actual owner of the property steps up and claims the bike, or contests the lien. They send notification to the address on the last title holder. If the bike has been out of the system for more than 5 years (California), registration information is dumped,k but they should still have the title holder on record. You still have to go through the lien sale process even if the bike is not registered with the state.

How do you receive a vehicle title that still has a lien?

You can't. If a vehicle has a lien on it the lien holder is the owner of record of the vehicle.

Can you sell land in Illinois is you have a lien on it?

If you sell the land it would still be subject to the lien. A prudent buyer will have the title researched and the lien will be disclosed. They will insist that the lien be paid off before taking title to the property.

If a vehicle has a lien can it be registered by owner?

Yes, you can register a car with a lien on it. Once you turn in that title from the seller with the lien on it when you are registering that lien will be recorded over to the title issued in your name. The lien has nothing to do with registering a vehicle. It has everything to do with selling a vehicle.

What does it mean if there's a lien on a car title?

A lien on a car title most typically means that money is still owed on the car. When a person takes out a loan on a car a lien is put on the title until the full repayment of the loan.
