the door can stick closed if the latch mechanism isn't kept clean and lubed. To open it-you must go through the inside and pry away the plastic door panel. i used a plastic puty knife to avoid damaging the panel or door. Once you separate the pannel enough-reach your arm in and pull (up)on the latch lever. once opened you can grease the latch assembly and replace the panel. have fun!
If you have the key fob on your person, that is a lock or unlock button. If you have the key fob on your person, that is a lock or unlock button.
If the key will not work in the door or the liftgate, you will need to call a locksmith or break a window.
Remove the small rectangular cover on inside of gate. Push down on arm and have someone pull on outside handle. The gate should open then. The power lock motor is probably bad and has to be replaced.
You can unlock all the doors , liftgate and glass using the keyless entry keypad , but to actually get the rear glass to open you have to turn the handle on the liftgate Enter your personal code or the factory code to unlock the drivers door and then push the 3/4 button within 5 seconds to unlock the other doors and liftgate
If power door locks equipped, then unlock doors. If not, then use key in liftgate. Now feel around in the recess (with your hand facing you) above the license plate in the center of the liftgate. You should feel a rubbery surface slightly raised. Pull with fingertips and the liftgate should swing out and upwards. To close, pull the liftgate down and push closed. Most models will latch and relock automatically.
i have a 93 and i unplugged the maroon box under the steering colum
This body style has a terrible issue with the liftgate actuator. You need to check to see #1) Is the relay clicking when you hit the unlock on your FOB. This is located in the fuse panel by the driver's left leg. #2) Put your ear on the liftgate and listen for a "clunk" when you hit the unlock button on your FOB. If you hear both, then most likely the actuator is faulty and doesn't have the strength to move the armature for unlocking, or in some cases, the armature actually is getting caught on its own bracket. Crawl into the back and pull the plastic out directly in the middle of the liftgate at the seem where the top panel meets the bottom panel. The latch is right there. By sliding your hand in, you can manually unlock the liftgate and if needed, unplug the actuator until you get it fixed for good. Hope this helps.
Is it possible that the Jeep is a Laredo with an alarm. My jeep did the same thing after I installed a new starter. What I had to do was close the driver side door, lock it, and then unlock it to disable the alarm. Hope this helps.
You can: -Open the drivers door and press "unlock" -Have a keyless entry system installed at a Best Buy or similar car audio shop. All of the locks (including the rear hatch) are on a central locking system and they will all lock or unlock together.
