I just replaced the heater core on my 2001 Chevy Silverado. What a _itch. You could not pay me enough if I were a mechanic to ever do it again. To answer you because I had cut the hose from my core to remove it. You need a special tool from your parts store that slides in the top of the fitting and opens it up on the inside to slide off. If you are replacing the hoses which I did they are usually 5/8in. but I could not get it to fit into the fitting on the block so I went with a 3/4in and bought a bushing to fit inside the hose and go back down to a 5/8in for the motor side. I'll never buy another Cheverolet because of the difficulty in replacing their heater core. They are the worst. Eddie Peterson
That is called a quick disconnect fitting and it requires a SPECIAL tool to get it loose.
Yes, there is a tool for that. But, I just carefully cut mine off with a drimel tool. Just be careful not to tug or bend on it too much... don't want to break the metal nipple from the heater core!
Nope.
you have to remove the dash and steering column then the heater box I have done many and its at least 1.5 days to do.
You will need to remove the dash and it should be somewhere under
It take a special tool to release the hose connector. I went to O'Rielly and they show me the Dorman Quick Disconnect replacement part ($6.29) and the Disconnect tool set ($19.99). It took the 3/4" disconnect tool to release the broken hose connector on my GMC truck. Snap on the 3/4" disconnect tool onto the heater core tube, then slide the tool into hose connector to release the dog ears inside the connector. Then pull the connector off. It took me about 30 second to remove the disconnect once I had the connect tools.
Drain the radiator. Disconnect the heater hoses. Remove the screws holding the heater core case and remove the whole assembly. Remove the core and install the new on in the case. Reverse the procedure to finish the installation.
buy a Chilton manual and it will tell you most of what you need to know.
the heater core is accessed from under the hood it is a nasty time consuming task. lift the hood and see the heater assembly against firewall. remove all that to get at the heater core
Open the glove compartment and remove it. Disconnect the electrical connector and the three mounting screws. Remove motor.
There are two hoses for the 2006 Silverado heater core. Loosen the clamps where the hoses go into the firewall. Twist the hoses gently to break them loose. Slide the hoses off. Follow the hoses to the other end, and repeat the process.
you have to remove the glovebox, its behind that, it has 2 bolts and a "connector", should be on the left side of the blower housing.
