Lift up the headrest to the highest position. The metal shafts have plastic rings that are part of the seat. Unscrew the rings counter clockwise around both shafts of the headrest and then pull headrest off.
There's a little hole in the back of the plastic peice at the base of the headrest bar. Put in the lock to release it on both sides
Perserverence paid off. 1. Raise Headrest 2. Unscrew 2 plastic retainer collars 3. Push down on cushion where guide post enter seat back and look for hairpin clips. (They are thin and difficult to see) Remove hairpin clips from each guide post and pull headrest up and out. A long thin needle nose pliers worked for me.
It's pretty easy. I have the 2004 model year, which is basically the same thing. Raise the headrest all the way up. Look at the plastic pieces on the seat where the headrest supports go into the seat. One of them will have a small hole. Get a paperclip and push it into the hole while pulling up on the headrest and it will come out.
No. No "kit" is available. Just replace the headrest with a new one from a dealer or a replacement from a junkyard.
Lift the headrest to the full upright position, and you will notice on the plastic piece where the headrest rod goes into, there should be a small hole in the plastic piece, insert a small tool or paperclip, and then life up on it. I had the same question because I wanted to put seat covers in on my car, just find the little hole to place the tool into, and lift up.
Remove the water hose and allow the water to drain into a bucket. Remove the retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new water pump.
On my jeep there is a button to push to go down on the left rod and one on the top of the headrest on the right side to make it go up but on the bottom right rod on the vinyl ring facing the rear window you can push it in and i believe that is the locking mechanism I push that in and the button on the bottom left and it released the headrest came right up...i'm sure you have to push that button back in when you want to put the back in as well. Hope that helps.
