You'll need to unbolt the torque converter from the flexplate. That's the only link between the two. Make sure to support the transmission before unbolting it from the engine.

On the 2.2 liter engine there should be a dipstick coming up through the engine bay from the trans, but unfortunately there is not.I was told that as long as it's not leaking then it's fine, but there is no dipstick.
