You need to locate the tensioner pulley which keeps pressure on the belt. Use a wrench (of correct size) and pull on the nut on the pulley to relieve tension on the belt. You should them be able to slide the belt off. You do the same thing to put the new belt back on. Make sure it is routed correctly. There will be a routing diagram for the belt on top of the radiator support. The nut for the pulley threads on in reverse so you won't loosen it when pulling on it.
My 1992 Olds Delta 88 has the serpentine belt diagram on the top of the radiator
To remove the belt tensioner on a 1994 Oldsmobile Delta 88, first, ensure the engine is off and cool. Use a wrench or socket to rotate the tensioner pulley counterclockwise to relieve tension on the serpentine belt, then slide the belt off the tensioner. Remove the mounting bolts securing the tensioner to the engine and take the tensioner off. Finally, replace it with a new tensioner, reattach the mounting bolts, and reinstall the serpentine belt.

I've done this before, and it is difficult. You have to remove 1 of the bottom motor mount bolts and remove the bolt and spacer. The belt actually goes through the mount. How Dumb is that. Good luck.
you havee to remove the lower bolt on the motor mount to get enough clearance to slide it through take it to someone its faster and easier that way
remove the coolent tank and then use the pully to remove the serpentine belt. then you'll be able to see the water pump takes about half an hour tops.
If you go towww.autovalue.com and look up the belt for your car, you can click on the first line in the parts list and get a routing illustration to print off.
Find the idler tensioner pulley and retract it. You then will be able to easily remove and replace the belt.
I have seen on an Olds forum that the belt for the 86 olds 88 w/o a/c will work. It should be 75.5 in instead of 103 (the 1986 88 belt is 76.1 in)
To replace the tensioner pulley on an Oldsmobile 88, first, disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety. Then, locate the tensioner assembly and use a wrench to relieve tension on the serpentine belt before removing it. Next, unbolt the old tensioner pulley from the assembly, replace it with the new pulley, and reassemble by reversing the steps. Finally, reattach the serpentine belt and reconnect the battery cable.
I found this information with a diagram of the serpentine belt. Hope it helps.
To remove the air compressor from a 1994 Oldsmobile Delta 88, first, disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety. Next, locate the air compressor, then remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner. Disconnect the electrical connector and any hoses attached to the compressor, then unbolt it from its mount. Finally, carefully lift the compressor out of the engine bay.
