How do you remove a serpentine belt on a 1991 Jeep Cherokee limited?

Is there some reason that you want to remove it? There is an idler pulley that keeps tension on the belt and the tension can be released by turning the main bolt that holds the pulley. I think that you'll need a 9/16 inch socket and a ratchet....might be larger but it's a standard sized socket. Get the right size ,the bolt is right on the front of the only pulley that doesn't have a "device" connected to it and turn it counter clockwise. This should release the tension and you can pull the belt off and so on. If you can't figure it out go to a local parts store and they will be happy to get out of the store and answer an easy question iike this.

There should also be a sticker at the front that shows the routing of the serpentine belt around the various pulleys on the engine (alternator, water pump, AC etc.....) The only one that is capable of releasing pressure on the belt is the tensioning pulley and then......we go back to the top of this message.

A simpler answer would be to tell you to cut the thing in half with a cutting tool of some kind but I suspect that's not what you want to hear.......so that's why I posted the above stuff.
