you jack up the car, make sure that you use jack stands and blocks behind the wheel.. then from underneath the car you will see a cylindrical object. there are two bolts that attach this to the block. but first you need to disconnect the battery and make sure that the car is cool.. the exhaust is close to the starter. then go under the car and disconnect the wires to the terminals on the starter.. then you can take off the starter bolts using a 9/16 socket. do the reverse for installing the new one..
Remove the positive battery cable from your 1987 Chevrolet Blazer battery. Remove the starter cables from the front of the starter. Remove the starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new starter.
The starter should be between the engine and trans on the right side of the truck. Disconnect battery, remove wire from starter to battery. There should only be 3 bolts attaching the starter to the trans bellhousing.
You will need to loosen the motor mount on the side of the starter to jack up the motor slightly to remove the starter after removing the bolts that hold the starter on to the engine. Remove all wires from starter also.
you will need: 12mm socket 10mm socket 14mm socket ratchet 3" extension unhook battery power remove power cable in top of starter remove signal wire on starter remove the 2 14mm bolts from top and bottom of starter threaded in and through trans pull starter out and put new on in reverse this procedure starter is located a little behind and directly under the distributor on pass side of engine bay on trans
Which engine is in it ? First disconnect battery remove torque converter cover if it is an auto trans remove starter bolts position so you can remove rest of wires stand starter vertical rotate and let it com out the bottom
Starter solenoid is on the starter, trans solenoid is on the trans.

Starter solenoid is on the starter. Trans solenoids are on the valve body, in the trans.
A Starter is simple to remove... if you have the 2.5L engine, its just 2 bolts on the trans behind the engine and 1 below the starter... alot says the bolt that's below that you have to remove it from underneith, I never do, I always take all bolts out from the top.
Some of these are harder than others. Some you need to jack up the motor to remove the starter from below. Some you also have to loosen the trans from the body to jack the engine high enough to fit the starter through.
1. unhook neg. battery lead. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP 2. unbolt large power wire from starter. 3. unplug wires from solinod on starter. 4. remove bolts (2) that hold starter to trans. %. remove starter, replace and reverse steps
You'll find the starter where the trans meets the engine on the passengers side of the engine. Remove the electrical connectoions after disconnecting the battery, remove the 2 securing bolts on the starter and pull it away from the engine. Install is reverse of removal.
