Some of these are harder than others. Some you need to jack up the motor to remove the starter from below. Some you also have to loosen the trans from the body to jack the engine high enough to fit the starter through.

To change the starter on a 1998 s10, the motor mount will have to be removed. Support the motor on a jack with a board on the top of it, and remove the mount to get to the starter.

Remove the two bolts holding the starter to the engine then you should be able to drop the starter down enough to take the wires off and remove the starter.
