The Tensioner is spring loaded-use a long wrench on the center of the pulley 2 release tension-DON"T UNBOLT anything-IF it doesn't feel springy then find the bolt in the center of a (the) pulley that is.

To loosen the tension on a serpentine belt on a 2005 Grand Caravan 3.8L, turn the nut of the belt tension pulley to loosen it. Adjust the belt, then tighten the tension pulley by turning the nut in the opposite direction.
First, Disconnect the negative battery terminal from the battery. Then remove the A/C belt. Next remove the serpentine belt. Then remove the idler pulley using a 15mm closed end wrench. Next, remove the bolt securing the tension-er pulley and remove the pulley from the spring base. Next, remove the alternator. Once the alternator is removed you have access to get to the 15mm nut securing the tension-er pulley assembly. Remove the nut and then the spring base. Go in reverse for the assembly.

Once you remove the intake cover, the alt. is now right in front of you. Disconnect the battery cable, release the tension on the belt, you will see a square ratchet drive slot around the pulley tensioner, insert the ratchet check which way to turn. Now remove the wire plugs into the alt. and just unbolt. Takes about 15 minutes to remove this.
