Just did this on a 64. Loosen the top bolt on the steering shaft coupler (also called a rag-joint) , remove the lower bolt on the coupler and slide the coupler up as far as it will go. Disconnect the two hyd. lines and the ground wire. Remove the three bolts that secure the box to the frame. The trick to getting the box out of the car is to remove the lowest mounting pad from the gear before trying to drop it out of the car. Ford calls out a special tool for this but a large pipe-wrench does the job easily. The box is extremely heavy so don't be under it as it comes out. After it's out you'll need to remove the remaining 2 mounting pads so they can be installed on the rebuilt gear.
Put a container under the gearbox to let the fluid drain. Disconnect the pressure and return lines. There is a bolt with a nut that goes through the steering coupler that has to be removed. Jack the car up on the driver's side. There is 3 bolts that come through the frame that you will have to remove. Do every thing in reverse to install the new one.jd
