juss hit it from the back that's how it works on mine There are two parts, the outside mirror and an inside plate with a toggle in it to move the mirror around. Inside plate just pops out. It is held in by two clips. Use a flat screwdriver around the outside to loosen and it will pop out. Then you must loosen the screw holding the toggle in place. This is done using a small Allen key. Once you have done this, pull toggle out and remove the plate completely. Then the mirror is held in place by three nuts on the inside of the door. Loosen them off. Remove the mirror from the ouside. Replace it by doing this in reverse order. Good luck. Be careful not to rip insulation piece on outside of door.
I think you have to take off the inner door panel and remove from there...Rick D

I have a 96 Dodge Ram with same mirror problem. Started after about 135k miles. Dealer said they just "wear out" and they need to be replaced. They are OK under 60 mph, but after that they both turn in. If I do replace, I will go with power mirrors to prevent future problems. you dont need to replace the mirror! take the cover off the mirror where it attaches to the door and the problem will be easy to see. But how do you remove the cover?
