It happenned to me when I accidentally placed a microwave container on the hot Ceran surface. I first soaked the deposit in Acetone (after cooling the stove - Acetone is inflammable), and then used the standard ceramic hot plate surface cleaner (I presume some kind of fine abrasive in a paste) followed by real hard rubbing. Another method is to burn it off (watch for toxic smell!), and then remove the residue marks using the normal cleaning paste. I have not tried the latter method, but a friend tells me that it works. Baking soda and vinegar applied to burn stains will remove them from ceramic pots. After applying the baking soda and vinegar scrub the stain with a nylon pad.
