If you don't want to get into adding chemicals, etc., you can actually just leave the water out for 24 hours and the chlorine evaporates out of the the water. That's a useful process when filling a fish bowl/tank as well (though many hobbyists simply add chemicals to neutralize a number of harmful elements).

Or you could just stick a piece of paper in it for one hour and it will collect the chlorine out of your water.

Another highly reliable method is to use an activated carbon filter.

Sunlight will break it down and disperse it quite rapidly - but you shouldn't normally be able to taste the chlorine.

Seven dilution steps, mix thoroughly at each step:

  1. Dilute 1 part chlorine with 9 parts water
  2. Dilute 1 part of the above with 9 parts water (this is 1% solution)
  3. Dilute 1 part of the above with 9 parts water (this is 0.1% solution)
  4. Dilute 1 part of the above with 9 parts water (this is 0.01% solution)
  5. Dilute 1 part of the above with 9 parts water (this is 0.001%, 100 ppm solution)
  6. Dilute 1 part of the above with 9 parts water (this is 0.0001%, 10 ppm solution)
  7. Dilute 1 part of the above with 9 parts water (this is 0.00001%, 1 ppm solution)

How you can separate chlorine from water?

For normal chlorine levels, there's a simpler way to remove the chlorine from your drinking water. Install a personal water filtration system, such as a Brita (or similar) filter that attaches to your faucet. There are also water pitchers with filters available that will purify the water. What is dechlorinated tap water?

Tap water contains chlorine to ensure no bacteria in the available drinking water source. Chlorine is also used in pools for the same reason. The disadvantage of having chlorine in our drinking water is that if we use it to water plants, it does about as much harm as good. The same rule applies to drinking that same water, as chlorine in the stomach causes acid reflux and erosive esophigitis as the chlorine becomes chlorine gas and is unhealthy. The best thing you can do is filter tap water by way of a charcoal filtering system.
