Try soaking the clothes in all-purpose orange cleaner, or one cup of lemon-scented household cleaner, prior to washing them on the heavy cycle. Be sure to smell the clothes for any remaining scent prior to drying them. If they still smell like diesel, run them through the washer again. Drying them will just set the smell in more.
An old school method is to pour a can or two of Coca Cola in with your laundry load -- it is a great degreaser.
