Remove the door speaker cover. The cover is held in place with two retaining screws. Remove the speaker retaining screws. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the speaker. Reverse the process to install the new speaker.
You do not need to remove the door panel to change your speakers. Remove the speaker cover, by prying outward on the speaker cover retaining clips. Remove the speaker retaining screws. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the speaker.
remove the screws usually behind the door handle, also remove the cover tabs on the door grab on the panel and then remove the speaker grill and remove the three or four screws around the speaker not the ones holding the speaker in place.

you need to remove the door skins first there is a screw on the inside of the speaker cover that holds it on.
There are Allen screws around the door panel. Sides and bottom. Remove those and the handle has a cover. separate the cover from the handle and remove screws. If there is a speaker in the door you need to find the little slots on the cover. Use a small screwdriver and pry the cover off.Remove the screws from the speaker. Pull out and up on the panel to remove. It has to go over the door lock and once it comes away unplug the light on the bottom of the door.
Open The Door, Remove The Door Panel, Remove Speaker, Wire The New Speaker, Fix The Speaker To The Door, Refix Door Panel, Switch On
Gently pry up on the speaker cover with a small screwdriver or knife. There are screws under the cover to remove the speaker, unplug harness and its free.

Remove the factory speaker cover on the inside of the door and remove the 3 screws from the mirror. The speaker cover is held in with 2 clips, one at the top and one at the bottom. They are friction fit clips.
Remove the speaker covers from your 1997 Mercury. Remove the door speaker retaining screws. Remove the door speaker wiring harness. Reverse the process to install your new door speakers.
