1 Take a week off work and don't expect to using your car for a while. 2 Disconnect the battery and drain the cooling system. 3 Working under the bonnet, disconnect pipes from back of heater assembly 4 Remove the complete facia assembly and steering wheel. (If a passenger airbag is fitted seek further advice) 5 Remove heater assembly and withdraw matrix. 6 Put everything back together with new matrix installed and new o-rings on pipe connector. I did find a shortcut with a peugeot 405 but the heater was located on the passenger side.

The heater matrix can be accessed from the front passenger side. Remove the glove box and the flow end return pipes for the heater matrix can be seen. You will need a fairly long T20. Torx driver.
Remove the hoses from the heater core pipes and install a short piece of pipe in both those ends. Install hose clamps and it's bypassed.

Remove centre consul. Drain cooling system. Remove 2 heater pipes on bulk head under bonnet. Remove matrix cover in car under dash. Pull matrix out. This was on a 2002 model. As they say in the haynes manual..do in reverse to refit !

Read the label. A gas heater will have three plumbing pipes connected.One is a gas supply. An electric heater will only have two plumbing pipes but it will have an electical conduit or electrical wire feed line.
The heater hoses connect the block, radiator, heater core, and waterpump. To replace, drain the radiator and catch the anti-freeze for recycling. Remove the hoses and put on new hoses. It is kind of nasty but not very difficult.
Be very careful when you disconnect them, stock heater core had plastic pipes , twisting or bending the hose can break the pipes, then you will have to replace the core. Remove the two heater hoses at the firewall and flush the heater core through there.
1- Drain coolant. 2- remove heater hoses from core inlet and outlet pipes in engine compartment. 3-remove screws and heater core cover. ( right side lower passenger compartment ) 4- carefully lower core out of heater unit. This old of a truck it would be wise to replace both heater hoses. Use antifreeze as a lubricant to install heater hoses to new core inlets.
