Raise the front of the car using a a jack and support using axle stands.
Remove front drivers side road wheel.
Remove inner wheel arch panel. This provides access to the Auxiliary belt and tensioner.
To remove the belt; using a spanner turn the bolt in the centre of the tensioner to release tension on belt. Remove belt.
To remove the tensioner there is a bolt at the rear of the of the tensioner which is accessed from below the engine
you have to remove the belt tensioner to remove the belt off of the engine.
Use a breaker bar in the belt tensioner to relax tension and then remove/replace belt
Release the pressure on the belt tensioner and belt should slide off pulleys
Remove the serpentine belt and remove the alternator. The belt tensioner bolts are under the alternator.

there is no repair for a belt tensioner. just buy a new tensioner. remove old belt, remove old tensioner, it is held on with one bolt. install new tensioner. install new belt
Remove the belt, Remove one bolt out of the fulcrum part of the tensioner and remove the tensioner; reverse the precedure.
Remove valve cover, then remove the side time belt cover. Check timing belt tension. If there's too much slack, loosen timing belt tensioner, put pressure against side of tensioner with long screwdriver, then tighten the tensioner bolt.
To change the serpentine belt on a 2003 Pontiac Bonneville, loosen the tensioner pulley and remove the old belt. The tensioner pulley is the wheel in the belt system that has a bolt through the middle in a slot that can be adjusted. Put the new belt on and tighten up the pulley.
you will need a belt tensioner set, it has a belt tensioner tool and a bolt/nut that needs to be placed in the correct spot, bolt ususally goes on the belt tensioner pulley. after u have placed the bolt on the belt tensioner pully. use the belt tensioner tool to create slack on the belt by pulling it to the right. then u should just be able to take belt off. might need 2 people
Remove the serpentine belt. Tensioner is below Alternator. Remove the three mounting bolts on the tensioner baracket assembly. Replace entire unit.
By locating and loosening the 'tensioner' for that belt, if the alternator mount does not include a tensioner.
