Locate the power steering gear box and drain the fluid. Locate the bolts and remove them. Pull the arm. Detach the steering wheel from the steering linkage. PullÊthe linkage until it dischargesÊfrom the gear box. Loosen the bolt on the gear box and remove the box.

You need a small gear puller.
The reverse gear linkage would be attached to the transmission, not the transfer case.
two options here: 1.) shift linkage (not likely) remove the linkage and place in gear manually. If it does not jump out, correct the linkage 2.) Transaxle. (most likely) Replace from dealer $3K Repair yourself 20 hours and $300 plus the usual blood letting.

You can fix a broken linkage in a 1999 Navigator truck by simply adjusting its Gear Shift.
On the left side of the bike, just behind the crank case and the left foot peg, is the linkage for the gear shifter. It's held in place by a 10mm bolt. Remove the bolt, remove the linkage, and replace at the desired angle.
