Disconnect the negative battery cable, using a socket. Remove the lower steering column shroud, using screwdriver. Lower the steering column by removing the three 15 mm nuts in the column support bracket on the instrument panel, using a socket. Pull the electrical plug out of the ignition switch. Remove the two bolts securing the ignition switch to the steering column, using the appropriate socket. Lift the ignition switch off the column. Hope this helps.

Remove upper and lower shroud (3Screws). With key in ignition and in the on position look for a ball detent and press it in with a small Philips head screw driver while pulling on the key. The entire cylinder lock will then come out.

There is a lock ring on the inside of the dash where the switch connects. You need to remove this lock ring to remove the switch from the dash.
get a sledge hammer break the window or the door (optional) then your good
hopefully your not stealing the vehicle. but you will have to remove the steering wheel and then remove the key switch itself, purchase a new key switch and replace. However if its only to move the vehicle, after you remove the key switch you can take a screw driver and turn the mechanism in the column to unlock.

disconnect all electrical connectors under steering colunm. remove bolt from steering shaft and slide shaft apart. pop the shift cable off. remove the four bolt holding the colunm to the dash and remove the colunm. under the ignition switch will be a hole, with the key in the run position stick a small Phillips or what works best is a 20 torx screw driver into the hole and remove the ignition switch. follow proceedure for new colunm.
The entire ignition switch assembly will unholy from the steering column. The key is required to remove the cylinder from the switch.

if you go to www.impalahq.com and find where you take the dash off this will get you in the right direction. i know you have to remove the dash to remove the key switch.
