unbolt crossmember, remove transmission mount, use wood clamp to pull transmission to side, cut knuckles 10,000 times, curse up a storm, use a 45 degree pick and snag the clip to pop it. PAIN IN the BOOTIE!
Disconnect battery ground cable. Remove battery. Remove battery tray. Remove clip retaining constant control relay module and position module aside. Remove radiator cap. Raise vehicle front end as high as possible. Remove radiator splash shield. Drain radiator. Remove the radiator mounting bracket assembly. Remove lower radiator hose. Partially lower vehicle. Remove upper radiator hose. Remove radiator overflow hose. Remove upper A/C condenser core retaining bolts. Remove upper transmission oil cooler tube clips. Remove lower transmission oil cooler tube. Raise vehicle. Remove lower transmission oil cooler tube clips. Remove lower transmission oil cooler tube. Remove transmission oil cooler bracket and position transmission oil cooler aside. Remove lower A/C condenser core bolts and position A/C condenser core aside(be careful not to loosen the AC condenser lines. Remove radiator support bracket. Remove radiator out through the bottom of the vehicle. Installation Position radiator. Position radiator support bracket and tighten nuts. Position A/C condenser core and tighten lower A/C condenser core bolts. Position transmission oil cooler tube and install transmission oil cooler tube bracket. Install lower transmission oil cooler tube. Install lower transmission oil cooler tube clips. Install lower radiator hose. Install radiator mounting bracket assembly. Tighten bolts. Install radiator splash shield. Lower vehicle. Install upper transmission oil cooler tube. Install upper transmission oil cooler tube clips. Install upper A/C condenser core retaining bolts. Tighten bolts. Install radiator overflow hose and tighten clamps securely. Install upper radiator hose. Position constant control relay module and clip securely. Install battery tray. Install battery. Connect battery ground cable. Fill and bleed cooling system. Start engine and inspect for leaks. I have been told that the front bumper needs to be removed in order to remove the radiator. I am having a cooling problem with my 1996 Taurus also. you are best to use a hoist if not you need to get the car as high as you can the remove shafts and then wiring and cooler lines,then you need to remove the cross member and best to have a jack under so it dont drop to far down,then lower it till it dont go no lower and leave the jack under it,then remove the converter bolts and starter bolts,then remove the bell housing bolt and the box is all but out,have fun and dont drop it on your head.
Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses and transmission lines from the radiator. Remove the fan shroud and the upper and lower bolts. Raise the radiator up and out.

DISCONNECT THE BATTERY!! Remove the drivesaft first. then remove the crossmember and the transmission mount. From there, you will want to go ahead and remove any electrical conectors from the transmission. Remove the linkage and/or the MLPS on the side of the transmission. turn the flywheel and remove all of the torque converter bolts. Start taking out the bell housing bolts and remove the starter bolts as well. Be sure to have a jack under the transmission for support as it starts to come back and down from the engine. slowly bring it down enough to pry the dipstick tube free from the transmission. A little lower and the cooler lines should be accessable to be removed. once they are removed, bring the transmission down slowly making sure not to snag on any electrical connections on the way down.. no. Remove the fan shroud; rem ove the fan; disconnect upper and lower hoses; this is the hard part- disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines. You may have to remove the battery as well - it should be disconnected anyway to keep from setting off the airbags.
