I had to do this a couple of times with my python. Unfortunately if it does not loose it after the second or third shed then you must remove it yourself. What I do is spray him down with some water then take some tweezers to it. Its hard to do and the snake gets agitated however if you don't want to spend money its your only option.

depends on type but generally you remove cover ,remove pin locking bolt 5/16" or 8mm ,remove spider pin then push axel inward ,remove "c" clip from axel then pull axel out this allows you to remove gear ball caps and remove gear ball, then pinon comes out through back
