Put car up on ramps and use 6 point socket on the crank bolt. Wedge a 1/2" breaker bar against the chassis or sway bar under the car towards the rear so that the lower end of the breaker is against the frame or sway bar and can not rotate rearwards or clockwise. Put the key in and lightly bump the starter (do Not start) The starter torque should break the bolt loose. If not the PB blaster on the bolt & washer area & try again. You will need to remove the plastic inner fender shield 10m bolts and shield. You local shop would use an impact wrench. If you have the impact wrench and can get to the crank bolt go for it BUT the "shade tree" method should work just fine.
Some of the 90's era Toyotas used a one piece crank bolt from the factory that can rust in place but for most FWD cars this method works great.
To remove the harmonic balancer from a Nissan Maxima, first you need to removed the center bolt. After that, you can use a puller to remove the harmonic balancer. Before you do this, make sure you disconnect the battery and remove the drive belts.
the Knock sensor is located behind the Harmonic balancer pulley. on the bottom sidethe sensor is $95.00 remove the lock down screw unplug and replace
Start by removing the right front tire and support the vehicle with a jack stand. Then remove lower portion of the splash guard near the harmonic balancer. Remove all drive belts. First remove the A/C alternator belt. Loosen the 14mm bolt at the front of the belt tensioner and then loosen the tensioner bolt (it is the one that's sticking straight up, you use a 14mm socket on it.). The power steering adjuster bolt will be accessed from the bottom near the power steering pump. It has a 12mm bolt head on it. You will break the jamb bolt loose first and then loosen the adjusting bolt. Remove belts. Then remove harmonic balancer bolt (19mm). If the harmonic balancer will not slide off the crankshaft then use a two finger gear puller. Place the harmonic balancer bolt back in the crankshaft but do not tighten it. Leave it about a half inch from being all the way in. Next place the puller on to the harmonic balancer. (one finger on each side securely press into the belt groove.) The center puller bolt will rest against the harmonic balancer bolt head. Tighten the puller bolt and make sure the harmonice balancer bolt does not turn. The balancer should come off at this point.
